Support OT / PT Rehab in India

Handi-Care Intl. has been arranging clinical placements for OT and PT students and professional OT, PT volunteers at Amar Seva Sangam (ASSA) since 2005. Currently, we have 9 Canadian universities participating in the program: University of British Columbia, University of Manitoba, Western University, Queens University, McMaster University, McGill University, Université de Sherbrooke, McMaster University and Dalhousie University.

In 2015 and 2016, we had 49 rehabilitation students and professionals working at ASSA.

These teams work on direct interventions with clients to improve their mobility, function and independence. Areas of focus for these teams have been at ASSA’s Spinal Cord Injury Unit, Early Intervention Centre, Centre for Special Education and Village Based Rehabilitation. In addition, teams work with and mentor ASSA staff teaching them new techniques and providing knowledge translation. This model ensures continuity of care and sustainability.

Teams that have volunteered at ASSA have been able to identify areas of need in this resource poor setting. In order to address these needs, they hope to gather donated equipment and collect funds that they will then direct to areas of need. This included purchasing wheelchairs, proper cushioning, splints to improve hand function and other therapeutic devices to help improve disabled clients lives. See examples of achievements from previous teams below.

Please click on the different teams below to see the members of each team and what each group hopes to focus on. Please help support these teams. All money donated will go towards equipment that will help each team achieve their goals of improving the function and lives of people with disability in India.
