Handi-Care Intl. WISHES YOU ALL

At this juncture, Handi-Care Intl. wishes to acknowledge your support and contribution through 2017 and wants to share the year (2017) in review, to highlight some of our achievements and progress, which has been possible only by your support. HCI also acknowledges the significant contribution by our volunteer board members and other volunteers through the year.

Here are some highlights:

  • A remarkable contribution by TAURUS 3D - PROSTHETIC LIMBS. Mr. Jerry Ennett and a colleague from Canada traveled to India and spent time at Amar Seva Sangam(ASSA) to teach them to make prosthetic hands and legs. They also donated a machine that will do the job. ASSA sees about 15 patients per month who require this service. Now ASSA is able to satisfy the needs of this population. Please click here to read complete report.

  • ASSA was invited to present papers at INTERNATIONAL SPINAL INJURY conference at New Delhi, organized by Indian Spinal Injury Centre, Spinal Cord Society. The chief physiotherapist, Mr. Ramasubramanian presented 2 papers and he won a gold medal for presenting "Enabling sustainable pressure management strategies through use of a Pressure mapping system and locally sourced cushions". This paper is a result of our Canadian collaboration. Our students carried the pressure mapping system to ASSA which can detect trigger points due to uneven pressure in certain areas, leading to bed sores. Our professional volunteers demonstrated as to how to use and implement this effectively to the spinal cord injured and other wheelchair users at ASSA. Our Canadian team proceeded to make adaptive cushions using locally available foam. Click here to view Mr. Ram's award. Mr. Ram is invited to attend WFOT (World Federation for Occupational Therapists) to be held in Capetown, South Africa.

  • The Early Intervention project, undertaken by HCI is in full swing. All your donations towards sponsorship of these children, under age 5 (Adopt A EI child) is being matched equally by Govt. Of Canada. In 2017, 50 children have been sponsored bringing the total to 172. Please click here to see the list.

  • HCI continues to support other children(age 6 and above), and youth whose sponsorship started several years ago under "Adopt A Child" and "Sponsor A Youth" programs.

  • In 2017, HCI sponsored the clinical placement of 21 graduate students from across Canada and 8 volunteer professional therapists. Click here to view photos and click here to read testimonials.

  • SDR surgery / post surgery rehab: As of Nov. 2017, HCI has helped with 6 Surgeries and post SDR rehab. Currently raising funds for 4 who are getting the surgery in 2018. Another 4 applications are in process.
